Hi there, I overcontributed to my 2021 401K by about $1000, and I noticed this in February of 2022. I withdrew the excess and received a 1099-R in January of 2023 (last month). What happens next?
I believe I am supposed to amend my 2021 taxes and add the 1099-R there, but there doesn't seem to be a way to submit that by efiling. Everytime I try to click submit it takes me into a loop over and over where it has me check it, submit it, asks me to check it, and submit it, etc.. i cannot get the tool to go anywhere except a loop. Do I have to file by mail and check?! Seems so annoying

A 2021 federal amended tax return, Form 1040-X, cannot be e-filed using the personal editions of TurboTax. The amended return has to be printed and mailed. So you need to change your filing option to Mail instead of E-file.
Thank you - is there a way to e-file it (what are the options if not "personal" can you pay to upgrade?) I paid to file with self-employed. Only b/c mailing is less convenient and i would need to purchase checks.
Sorry, no. TurboTax supports e-filing of the current year, 2022, amended tax returns, not prior tax years. Only the Intuit Professional editions can e-file prior year amended returns.
