Is pension income considered "active" or "passive" income?

Pension income has nothing to do with passive activity losses or section 179.  It is not passive activity income.  See IRS Pub 925 where it lists items that are not passive activity income:  https://www.irs.gov/publications/p925#en_US_2021_publink1000104595
