Social Security benefits can be taxable regardless of your age if you have other income to report on your tax return.

Up to 85% of Social Security becomes taxable when all your other income plus 1/2 your social security reaches:

  • Married Filing Jointly - $32,000
  • Single or Head of Household - $25,000
  • Married Filing Separately - 0

When you reach full retirement age,  there will be no reductions in your benefit if your continue to work. This is frequently misunderstood to mean that your Social Security (SS) benefit won't be taxed, at certain ages.  That's not the case. SS will be taxed, regardless of your age, if you have sufficient other income
