Is monthly disability payments the same as monthly social security payments?

When filing my taxes, after i entered the ssa1099 info. in the federal area, it went on to begin NYS tax and it asked if i had recieved any monthly disability payments. It stated i had not listed any disability payments in my prior years taxes even though i definitely have added the ssa1099 i fo every year. This is the first year i have had this specific separated question. Almos as if it didnt pertain to the ssa1099 info at all. Which leads me back to my main question...Is monthly disability payments the same as monthly social security payments?

it depends.  Social security benefits include monthly retirement, survivor and disability benefits. They do not include supplemental security income (SSI) payments, which are not taxable.  SSDI is potentially taxable, coming under the same set of tax rules as Social Security retirement family, and survivor benefits.   If you are receving SSDI, it would be listed in on your SSA-Form 1099 in the box titled DESCRIPTION OF AMOUNT IN BOX 3.
