Is IRS contributions the same as putting money into your 401K?

NO.  An IRA contribution is NOT contributing to a 401(k)

Your contributions to the employer provided 401(k) account are entered on your W-2 in box 12 with a code of D.  You do not enter those anywhere else on a tax return
