No, they are not the same thing. 1099-R is for retirement funds and 1099-DIV come from investment distributions.

No, they are not the same.

The Form 1099-R is received for retirement plan or annuity distributions during the year.

 

The Form 1099-DIV is for reporting dividends received during the year from certain types of investments.
