On the "Let's enter your HSA contributions", I correctly note the separate employer/payroll contributions ($2150, which was extracted from my W2) and my personal/post tax contributions ($2150) that sum to the 2025 max HSA contribution of $4300.
When I click "Calculate max contribution limit" on one of the pages in this flow it confirms "Your maximum contributions is $4,300".
But when I get to the final page of the HSA flow, it states I have excess contribution of $2,150. Only when I remove my personal contribution amount does this excess contribution notification go away.
What am I doing wrong?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
So permit me to ask, the $2,150 in "personal" contributions were contributions you made directly to your HSA custodian, NOT through your employer, and the $2,150 in payroll contributions were not entered anywhere else on this return (like in the "personal" contribution line?
Second, is it possible that you had a carryover of excess contributions ($2,150) from 2024, which TurboTax, per the IRS rules, is going to try to apply to 2025 as a "personal" contribution?
Third, did you have Self-only HDHP coverage all year (2025), or at least on December, 1 2024?
