Did you receive a 1099NEC?
You can enter Self Employment Income into Online Deluxe or Premier but if you have any expenses you will have to upgrade to the Self Employed version.
How to enter income from Self Employment
In the Desktop program you can switch to Forms Mode and open a 1099NEC and fill it out. It will populate your return. It will show up on the business income page on the 1099Misc line. That will probably be fixed when they update that part of the program.
If you have the Online version or even in the Desktop program just enter your total business income as Cash or General. You don't need to enter the actual 1099Misc or 1099NEC. Only the total goes to schedule C line 1.
Yes, I have it already. That wasn't my issue. The app would not take me to that section. The help article said that on the top right hand side I could type in 1099-NEC and it would take me to that part in TurboTax.
I should have just used my computer. I've been filing my own taxes for over 10 years on TurboTax. I know exactly how to do it, just could not navigate the app.
@VolvoGirl I'm on a different username because it didn't take me back to the app. It's in a browser now. You misunderstood me. I know exactly how to file my taxes, have done so for over 10 years. I just could not navigate the app. I'm usually on my PC. It wouldn't get me out of the W-2 section
The help guide said that on the top right hand side of the app to type in the specific type of 1099 I need and it would take me to where I would fill in my info.
I have never used this chat forum thing, never needed to. I had no idea I was asking other users a question. I thought it would take me to that part of the app where I could fill in my 1099 info.
I do know exactly how to do my taxes. It is extremely easy. That was not the advice I needed. The app is a bit annoying compared to being on my PC.
I already got it all done, prior to reading these messages. I had to bypass the W-2 section to get to the 1099 one.
I'm not going to use the app again for my taxes. It is much easier on my computer.
