I started receiving SS benefits in 2022 since my father died in 2021. Do I file this on my tax return or does my mother? I just turned 18 this year.
If your Social Security number is in box 2 of the SSA-1099 then the benefits paid can only be reported on your tax return. However, if you have no other income in 2022 other than the benefits paid you do not need to file a tax return.
