I received a 2018 1099-R for a 2017 Roth distribution.Taxable amount $.06 Box 7 code P, but in TT 2017 that code indicates 2016 distribution, so I can’t properly amend.

Box 7 code P on the 2018 form (indicating a 2017 taxable distribution)  resulted in TT 2018 saying I needed to amend my 2017 return.  However, in TT 2017, when I go to add a 1099-R, code P indicates a 2016 distrubution.  So TT 2018 won’t allow me to add the 1099-R, and TT 2017 with code P indicates an incorrect 2016 distribution.

When you enter the 1099-R in your amendment return in 2017 there should be a follow-up question "Which year on Form 1099-R?" when you select 2018 TurboTax should include it correctly.

Thanks but this did not work..turbotax 2018 gave me the option, as you said, of selecting 2018 or 2019...selecting 2018 resulted in the suggestions to amend my 2017 return.

When you amend your 2017 return then select the year 2018.

I can't do that...in TT 2017 entering the correct code P on my 2018 form matches "2016 Taxable year distribution".     Thank you, I do appreciate your attention very much!

ah, maybe my mistake is trying to amend using TT 2017...I will try in TT 2018.

A 2018 1099-R with a code P must be reported on  an amended 2017 tax return - using the 2017 software is correct.  The "which year" question is after you enter the 1099-R so don't worry that it says on the entry screen that code P is 2016 - that will change to 2017 on the next screen.  However, if the taxable amount is only 6 cents, then ignore it since any amount less than 50 cents rounds to zero and zero taxable amount is not allowed.
