I received a 1099-R form and not the 1099-INT form. Can I use the 1099-R form instead of the 1099-INT form?

Where do I get the 1099-INT form if it wasn't sent to me?

Form 1099-R is for retirement distributions. If you have a separate savings, checking, brokerage account (not retirement account) where you earn interest then you can check with your bank if they sent you a Form 1099-INT. If they didn't but you know the interest amount then you can enter the interest without the form:

  1. Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-INT”
  2. Click on “Jump to 1099-INT”
  3. On the "Let's import your tax info" screen click "Enter a different way"
  4. Select "1099-INT"
  5. Select "Type it in myself"
  6. Enter the name of the bank for received from
  7. Enter the interest amount in box 1

To enter your Form 1099-R for the retirement distribution:

  1. Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”
  2. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
