I received $3,000 in Tuition Assistance from the Air Force for. Is this something that I have to claim on my taxes, as I committed myself to additional service time?

For every semester that I received TA from the AF, I signed a contract committing me to 2 years of active duty service after the end of that semester.

GI Bill and military tuition assistance (TA) are tax-free. You do not need to report them on your return, but you also cannot deduct any qualified education expenses that you paid with them.

Only expenses above and beyond the benefits provided through these programs may be deducted.
