I have a 1099-R with a distribution code G - indicating rollover. In box 2b no boxes are checked. Should the total distribution box be checked or is this not an issue?

No, you should enter the Form 1099-R exactly so it appears, so you should not check box 2b.
As long as the 1099-R has distribution Code G, it is not taxable on your return.
