I have 2 Roth IRAs for the same amount, from the same institution, can't tell them apart.

There are doc IDs on the 1099 that TT doesn't read. One is in my name, the other in my wife's, but TT still asks me to identify the name.

The Form 1099-R has the recipients name and the recipients Social Security number.  If one is for you  and the other is for your spouse, you should be entering these based on the name on the 1099-R.  You are asked who the form belongs to before you get to the 1099-R input screen.

Yes, different names are on the 1099 form. And, when I look at the forms as they're loaded into TT, I see the names. But when TT prompts me for if it was retirement, civil service, railroad, it just gives the amount and asks for a name. I don't know which one it is. In reality, the answers are the same, but I don't want to flag an audit if I say it's mine and under the covers TT is pointing to hers.

The form that you each receive will have a form number on it.  You need to choose the correct form that you received.

Which of these did you receive?

Form 1099-R, Withdrawal of money from 401(k) retirement plans, pensions, IRAs, etc.

Form CSA-1099-R, Civil Service annuity

Form CSF-1099-R, Civil Service survivor annuity

Form RRB-1099-R, Railroad Retirement Board annuities and pensions
