What type of 1099? Is it a 1099-R?
It’s a 1099-G
Okay, is it for Unemployment Comp, or a State tax refund?
Well it’s from Unemployment. It says I should be getting $55 back from Federal and $36 back from State. When I add all the info though it says I owe $500. Instead of me getting my $165 from state.
Adding a 1099-G for unemployment is adding taxable income to your return. If you didn't have any tax withheld from your unemployment benefit, it can change your return quite a bit.
For tax year 2020 only, the first $10,200 of unemployment was not taxable. This was done because so many people lost their jobs, or couldn't work for a while, because of Covid-19.
