I entered totals for 1099-NEC but it is still showing as zero income

Some of the responses say that it should show as self-employment but why is it then in a separate area? Also it's not self employment if a business provided the 1099-NEC

The 1099NEC is new this year.  They split off box 7 from the 1099Misc.  A 1099NEC is for self employment independent contractor income.  If you were an employee you would get a W2.

You can enter Self Employment Income into Online Deluxe or Premier but if you have any expenses you will have to upgrade to the Self Employed version.  Or use any of the Desktop CD/Download programs.

You have to report that income on Sch C as business income. You can also deduct any business expenses there.

You are not an employee of the business that sent you the 1099-NEC. You are a self-employed independent contractor. You have your own business. The business that sent you the 1099-NEC is your client.

Thanks for the link VolvoGirl, that cleared it up! I was chatting with a Turbo Tax rep who actually advised me against using the self-employment version, so I had to clear all my entries and start over with the Deluxe version. Still don't understand why it's coming up as zero after entering the totals in the Other Common Income (also advised by the TT rep), but your link confirms that Other Common Income is intended to report "money you received from something like a prize, award, lawsuit settlement, etc." I'm going to delete it and just enter it as Self-Employment. What I don't see is where I can enter the client's info in S. E. income, (1099-NEC) since it only asks about me, as the business.

Client?  TT is not licensed for use by paid tax preparers.   If you are using one of Intuit's professional programs, please ask your questions on that Board.
