I do not get W2 forms as I am retired. But the California state returns keeps asking me for W2 input. Why? Didn't happen in previous years.

You may have a W-2 form from a previous year in your program that you need to delete as per these instructions:

  1. Click on Tax Tools in the left menu bar
  2. Click on Tools
  3. Look under Other Helpful Links and choose Delete a form

Find the errant W-2 form in the list and click on the delete icon to remove it.

There were no W2 forms and did not locate a delete icon. Any other suggestions. I am using a current up todate turbotax desktop version.

If you are using TurboTax Desktop Version, follow these steps to review for any W-2 forms being created that are unnecessary:

  1. Click Forms in the upper right-hand corner
  2. Review all forms listed in federal and CA for W-2 Form or W-2 Worksheet
  3. Click on any form with the W-2 form or W-2 Worksheet and click delete
  4. Once done, click step-by-step in the upper right-hand corner

Can you tell us where in the CA interview you are asked for "W2 input"? What is the heading at the top of the screen? What is the exact question given to you by TurboTax?

We need some context as to how you are getting this request, so that we can zero into the right area.

After successful review by the desktop TurboTax version of Federal and CA State forms, went to transmit my returns. And during the final review stated I need State W2 wages and SDI input. Out of frustration, I then went to TurboTax the online version which I had been using the last 8 years and re-entered the same information used for the desktop version. I was then successfully able to transmit my returns. I wanted to note this. No further follow-up is required.
