If you take money out of your retirement account before you are 59 1/2 years old, you will pay an early withdrawal penalty of 10%, and ordinary income tax based on your tax bracket. If you take the money out in 2023, then in January/early February you will receive a 1099R that you must enter on your tax return.
To enter your retirement income, Go to Federal> Wages and Income>Retirement Plans and Social Security>IRA 401 k) Pension Plan Withdrawals to enter your 1099R.
I have principal finance 401k plan and hope that post withdrawal i will get 1099R form . On basis on this form I can file tax return? That mean no W2 or any other forms are needed coz I do not have any income
Yes you can file a tax return with just the 1099R. You do not have to have a W-2 in order to file a tax return. When the software asks if you have a W-2 to enter you say NO or just skip past that section and enter your 1099R.
One thing.....you say you are not in the U.S. Are you a U.S. citizen----or a non-resident alien? If you are a non-resident alien, you cannot use TurboTax.
NON RESIDENT ALIEN
If you are a non-resident alien, your return must be filed on Form 1040NR, which cannot be prepared using TurboTax. You can use TT’s partner, sprintax:
