If you cannot get a 1099-R issued for your retirement distributions (please verify with the plan administration) then you will have to create a substitute 1099-R:
Just curious; did The New Direction trust co. explain why they think they don't have to issue a 1099-R for the RMD? It's a distribution. Their own web site says you'll get one for a "distribution" (though RMD is not specifically mentioned).
If the amount of the RMD paid in 2021 was $10 or more, they must issue a 2021 Form 1099-R, otherwise they are in violation of IRS requirements.
If you didn’t take any distributions you don’t get the form. However you still need to enter the RMD so they can take 1/2 of it.
