Thank you, since the IRS does know who the beneficiaries are, it appears there is no way to avoid the notice. So I just wait for the letter to come then tell the IRS to look on the 1040 of the beneficiaries for the deceased RMD. Thank you for the response.

They do that automatically ... if the decedent didn't take the RMD before passing they expect it to show on the beneficiaries return ... not doing so will get an IRS letter.
