How do I get started? I am retired. My wife passed in August 2020. Only have 1099s nothing to write off?

Set your filing status to Married filing Jointly for 2020.

You will get the standard deduction of $24,800.

1099 forms report different types of income. You may have a 1099-INT, 1099-R, 1099-B and others.

If you look in the Income and Expenses section of TurboTax, will see entry screens for the most popular 1099 forms as follows:
