How do I file a claim for reimbursement when TurboTax miscalculates the taxable amount on the 1040?

ACCURACY GUARANTEE

TurboTax provides do-it-yourself tax software.  TurboTax guarantees the calculations done by its software.   The information entered into that software is data entered by you, the user.   TurboTax cannot and does not check that information against any outside sources, so TT cannot know if you entered your information completely or correctly.   It is up to you to enter all of your information correctly and completely, and to check your tax return before you file it.  If you forget to enter some income, or enter it incorrectly, enter it in the wrong place, etc. then you may end up owing additional tax to the IRS and/or state.  TurboTax does not pay the additional tax you owe.   If TurboTax’s calculations were incorrect, and you owe penalties and/or interest, then TT will pay the penalties and interest.  The tax due is always owed by you, and must be paid by you.

If you need to enter a claim for the accuracy guarantee:

How do I file a claim for reimbursement when TurboTax miscalculates the taxable amount on the 1040?

@ BradleyCharles

So if this is a 2024 return, did you already file your 2024 return, and if so, did you get a bill from the IRS saying the return was incorrect?

Where on the 1040 does the "miscalculation" occur?

For example, are you referring to the amount on Line 16 of the Form 1040?   If so, TurboTax uses a number of methods to calculate the Line 16 tax depending on the specific situations in your return.  TurboTax does not always use the IRS Tax Tables or the simple Tax Computation Worksheet.   Sometimes other calculation worksheets are used.  We can tell you where to look.

If your issue is with Line 16, is the amount of tax more or less than you expected?   I can tell you how to look at the Tax Smart Worksheet to see the method(s) TurboTax used to calculate Line 16.   If that's your situation, are you using Online TurboTax or desktop software?

Or is your issue something else, such as Taxable Income on Line 15?   More explanation is needed to narrow down what you are experiencing.
