In the Interest income section, you would enter it "as though" it was a regular 1099-INT. You can name the Payer as US Treasury, and the interest amount is reported in Box 1 of the screen.
Here are the steps:
To get to the 1099-INT interview, open your return (if not already open) and in the top right click on Search. In the search box enter 1099-INT without quotes, then click the adjacent magnifying glass.
Click on Jump to 1099-INT.
You'll then have to get past an importing screen. It will ask you if you want to import the 1099-INT, which doesn't apply for this.
- On the screen that says "Let's import your tax info" scroll down to the bottom right on that screen (underneath the logos) and choose "Change how I enter my form".
- On the next screen, scroll down to the bottom and choose "Type it in myself."
- Then it will ask you for the Payer's name and other info from your 1099-INT form.
- You can use US Treasury for the Payer/institution name, and report the interest in Box 1.
