Hello - I applied for SS last year and received my first SS payment in December 2020.  In January 2021, I decided to withdraw from SS and paid back the December 2020 payment.  I received a Form SSA-1099 for 2020 showing I received the payment in 2020.  Since I paid back the payment, do I still need to claim the December SS payment on my 2020 Tax return?  Or do I have to wait until 2021 tax return and make the amendments?  Thank you.

You still have to report the SSA-1099 on your 2020 return and you will report the repayment on next year's tax return since you repaid the benefits in 2021.
