I am working on a 2025 tax return and have it completed. There are nondeductible contributions & a distribution from the traditional ira. The system appears to be taxing everything correctly but lines 6 & 7 are not populating on the form 8606. The IRA worksheet does show the ira value as of 12/31/25 but I don't know why it is not showing on the form 8606. Any ideas?

this sounds like an issue with the 1099-R entries or supplemental questions after the 1099-R. You should go back through that section and make sure everything is answered. You can also try deleting and re-inputting the 1099-R again, especially if it was imported.
you can also check the IRA Information Worksheet in forms mode if you are on Destkop and look for anything missing or any errors. Double-clicking on Lines 6/7 on Form 8606 should show the related forms. For Online you may need to look at the PDF with 'all forms and worksheets'.
Thank you very much for your reply. I have gone through the section again to make sure everything has been answered and everything appears to be correct on the IRA Information Worksheet. I will try deleting the 1099'R and re-entering it.
Appreciate your help!
I deleted the imported form 1099-R and re-entered it and went through all the questions. That all looks good but there is still nothing populating on lines 6, 7 or 12 of the Form 8606 yet on page 2 of the Form 8606 line 15a the figure is correct which is subtracting line 12 from line 7?? I am so confused. The calculations are all correct. Should I file the return with lines 6 & 7 being blank since everything else is correct? I'm not sure what other option I have?
Hi:
Same here. After amending prior year non deductible IRA as I missed form 8606 in 2024. So I amended it with TT rep's help yesterday. Consequently, I have form 8606 correctly in 2024 amended return. However, TT shows "Print and mail the documents to government to complete the amendment" I clicked on the print icon but it shows error in the next window? Now I merged the 2025 return with that 2024 amended return, it does not seem the 2024 amended data was incorporated and the 2025 form 8606 is not completed ie line 6 and 7 has nothing?
Please help. Appreciate.
@angela829 if you amended 2024 I don't know the "merge" you're referring to but I think you should just have to update the question on your carryover basis in the Trad IRA section to make sure Line 2 on Form 8606 is correct. If on desktop you can double-click on the Form 8606 lines in Forms mode and/or check the IRA Information Worksheet.
Then for 2025 if Line 6/7 are still blank you should go back through the box inputs and questions on the 1099-R. If still having issues can you post more details on what's on your 1099-R then maybe someone here will be able to advise further.
@missya2j are you able to post more details what was on the 1099-R (boxes, distribution code etc) and maybe someone will be able to advise further. I'm not sure how Form 8606 behaves under all situations, if you're getting the right outcome then maybe it's correct for these boxes in Part 1 to not be filled in and just Part 2. Check the guidance on Form 8606 also.
It depends. TurboTax often does this, and it can be confusing. If Line 15a shows the right taxable amount but Lines 6 and 7 are blank, TurboTax is using the Taxable IRA Distribution Worksheet from IRS Pub. 590-B instead of doing the math directly on Form 8606. If the calculations are correct, then TurboTax is using the worksheet, which is perfectly fine.
Angela, just to be sure your 2024 amendment is correct, perform these steps.
Regarding the print error. If you are working in TurboTax online, go to tax tools>tools>print center. Here, see if this will allow you to print your forms. If working in the software, go to the file button in the top left of the return and select print. See if these will bypass the printing error.
Thank you so much for your assistance. That helps a lot and makes me feel better about submitting the return as is.
Appreciate you!
