am receiving a retirement income from Florida and being taxed for it in North Carolina why is this happening?

The state you live in can tax your income no matter where it came from. And NC does tax some kinds of retirement income.
By federal law, retirement income is taxable by your state of residence at the time you receive it. Doesn't matter where you earned it.
