Filing Returns for person deceased

Hi,

My mother passed away on January 30, 2025.  I am the executor of her Will.

I am currently filing her 2024 taxes on TurboTax.

When/How do I file her Estate taxes... will TurboTax take me to her Estate taxes somewhere along the way, or do I wait until the next tax year (since she passed away in 2025) and then file the Estate return next year?  What are the options?  I'd like to get it all done this year if possible.

Yes, you will wait until next year. The estate taxes will not be filed until 2025 since she died in January. TurboTax will not take your there, however you can use TurboTax Business Desktop to prepare them in 2026, for 2025.

You will keep track of all of the actions taking place after death, including any funds or property distributed so that you can be well prepared to file the first and, if applicable, final return.  Form 1041 will be used and K1s will be distributed to the beneficiaries to report for 2025 taxes.

Unfortunately, it looks like Turbo Tax Business did not support Minnesota fiduciary returns.  So it looks like if I use TurboTax Business to file 1041, I'll have to do the Minnesota return by hand?

At the current time the Minnesota M2 which is the fiduciary form for Minnesota is not supported by TurboTax.  So you would have to complete that one separately and mail it in.
