For the moment, I was going to get some of my hard earned money back for the first time in ages from years of struggling. Then, I entered in digits of a form 1099-C for cancellation of debt. Seems to be for my student loans, but the Fedloan as far as I knew took it all as they are the only ones I have been giving money too for years. Well, this form from Wells Fargo, who has done much to torment me since the 2000s for many reason, sent this form of a debt discharge. I entered it in, and now instead of getting a few hundred back, the government wants me to pay them now over $3k. That would take me a very long time. As I continued the process in TurboTax, it then said I had State issues (I did not have them before as I did a review prior to entering the 1099 data). Now, it wants me to add in info from a "previous year Form D400" to add into this new D-422 it presented me. I have no such form.
The page says, "Form D-422 Line 7 needs an entry. Enter the amount of your previous year Form D400 line 14 (less any credits claimed on lines 15, 21, 22). This value is used to help determine if you owe an underpayment penalty. If you had no NC income last year, enter zero." I do not understand this because my income is on W2.
How did I go from getting money back to having to give the government more again, when I can barely afford rent and food now? And, where is this D400? I never got one before, and I checked all records going back years.
