Yes, you have to claim it in both states. TurboTax will help you enter the correct portion to each state.
Each TurboTax state income tax return software has income allocation screens (see the screenshot below) so you may enter/allocate amounts to
each state that may be taxable to each state.
- Because the 1099-R doesn't
show when you received the money, you enter
the amount distributed while you lived in each state.
- If it was a single
distribution, enter the entire amount in the state you lived in at the
time you received the money.
- If you were receiving monthly
or quarterly payments, then divide the money up to indicate the amount you
received while living in each state.
To enter form 1099-R
in the federal income section of TurboTax:
- Type 1099-r in the search screen and click
search.
- Click on Jump to 1099-r.
- Enter your 1099-r.
