Do I have to file my 1099-R (military retired pay) in the state of SC?

Yes, if you are a South Carolina resident, you are generally required to file a South Carolina Income Tax return if you are required to file a federal return. But beginning with the tax year 2022, all military retirement pay is exempt from South Carolina Individual Income Tax. (SC DOR)

Please make sure you indicate during the federal interview, after you entered your Form 1099-R information, that this is military retirement distribution (on the "Where is your distribution from?" screen. TurboTax will exclude the military retirement from your state return.
