Did you receive a 1099-R for distributions from the retirement plan? If so, you need to report it.

Here's how to enter it:

  1. Open (continue) return if you don't already have it open.
  2. Inside TurboTax, search for 1099-R and select the Jump to link in the search results.
  3. Answer Yes on the Your 1099-R screen, then select Continue.
    • If you land on the Your 1099-R Entries screen instead, select Add Another 1099-R.
  4. Select how you want to enter your 1099-R (type it in yourself) and then follow the instructions. You can add up to 20 1099-Rs.

When you are entering information into your return about a retirement plan distribution reported on Form 1099-R, most of the information that you need will be on the Form 1099-R itself.  You will not need the account number.

There may be some follow-up questions that you will need to answer from your own knowledge of the account and the distribution which may not be specifically answered on the Form 1099-R.
