Amount in 2016 W-2 Box 12 Code W is for HSA contribution made in 2016 for 2015. I had HDHP in 2015 but not in 2016. TurboTax wants me to pay penalty on this contribution.

In the instructions for Form 8889 there is a "Employer Contribution Worksheet" that allows to subtract from the amount reported in 2016 Form W-2 Box 12 Code W employer contributions made in 2016 for the tax year 2015. But I can't find where can perform this calculation in TurboTax.

Navigate back to the section:

• In your open return, select My Account
• Tools
• Topic Search
• Type '8889' in the box, then select GO

On the page, Did your employer tell you about any other contributions?, mark the box Yes and enter the 2015 contribution made in 2016. The entry will be subtracted and only contributions for 2016 will be listed on line 9 of the worksheet.
