1099R Taxable income less than Gross Distribution

I took a distribution in 2019 that was not paid back in when I left my position in Jan of 2020 for the 2020 1099R shows a smaller amount in box 2a than Distribution amount. This is causing an error when I try to efile and the system will not complete the efile with this issue. Please explain

1099R Taxable income less than Gross Distribution

You must have been contributing to a Roth 401K.  There should be an amount in box 5 also.  This would be be your after tax contributions to the plan.  The amount in box 5 plus box 2a should equal the gross distribution in box 1.  If you do not see an amount in box 5, contact our plan administrator to get a corrected 1099R.
