1099-R Box 19 - Pick-up Contribution or Local Distribution

My 2020 1099-R, Box 19 says Pick-up Contribution, but Turbo Tax call Box 19 Local Distribution.

Which is it? How do I complete that part of the form?

This is exclusive to MD. any other 1099-R will say: 17 Local tax withheld and 19 Local distribution. If you have local taxes, enter them on the Federal return, but enter the new MD form on your state return. Pick-up Contributions

Important: Change to Block 17 (Pick-Up Contributions) for calendar year 2014

Retirees receiving a 1099-R form based on a disability retirement that commenced before January 1, 1995, will notice a change in Block 17. On prior 1099-R forms, the original amount of the retiree’s state pick-up contributions has been reported in Block 17. Beginning with the 1099-R form for 2014, “EP USED” will be reported in Block 17 for these retirees. This new reporting is based on the assumption that retirees, by this time, have recovered their pick-up contributions.

Coleen, thank you very much, but I'm still confused. Do I enter the Pick-up Contribution amount in Box 19 of TurboTax and will it flow properly into my Maryland tax forms?  Or, is there some other way to do it?

There is a discrepancy between the form 1099 R of  the Turbo tax and the form  sent by the state of Maryland and .  The form relates to my wife's pension.

In the MD form box 19 says pick up contribution but the Turbo Tax form box 19 calls it local distribution. And on the next page Turbo Tax asks about pick up contribution but mentions it to be part of box 17. But the form 1099 sent by marland calls the box 17 local tax withheld.

In both places ( in the TT form box 19 and on the next page in answer to the question about pick up contribution described as part of box 17 I have written the amount of pick up contribution

I hope when Maryland tax is computed by TT the discrepancy is resolved

Box 19 description does not match the form that was sent by Maryland State Retirement.  

"EP USED" is reported in Box 19 and not in box 17.

Not sure who is wrong but there needs to be a clear resolution to this.  Thanks.
