1099 NEC

I  received a 1099NEC from the general contractor and also received a 1099NEC from the title company handling the sale of the house. These two 1099s are for the same job, in the same amount. If I file both, I will be paying taxes twice for the same money received. What do I do?

1099 NEC

You can contact the one that didn't pay you and ask them to correct their 1099 to show the person who actually received the payment.  Or you can enter an expense equal to one of the payments and label the expense as "Duplicate 1099" or something like that.  Either way you are not expected to pay taxes on the same money twice.

1099 NEC

the NEC from the general contractor is for all the work I did for them and is higher than the nec from the title company. Do I just deduct the amount that was paid twice from expenses, and if so I really can't just put in "duplicate nec"? Can I put in something like duplicate payment on a 1099NEC? Or what should I put in the description?

1099 NEC

Or " 2 NECs for the same Payment"?

1099 NEC

Even though the NEC from the general contractor is for a greater amount than the NEC from the title company?

1099 NEC

If you confirmed that the smaller 1099-NEC from the title company duplicates part of the larger 1099-NEC from the general contractor, then yes, you can deduct the amount that is a duplication and state "2 1099s for the same payment" or whatever you think makes the most sense.

The previous replies advised correctly that you should report both 1099's, as the IRS information return matching program will be looking for both forms.
