2nd stimulus check

According to the IRS site, I am NOT getting a second stimulus check!  I dont understand why!  I got one last time and I am eligible!  I was counting on that.  Is there an explanation as to why I am not getting one?  Everyone else I know did!

2nd stimulus check

Many of the IRS statuses are vague and also some are inaccurate, particularly for customers affected by the IRS processing error.

If you filed an eligible 2019 tax return, you may still receive a payment.  If you have not received it by January 15, 2021, you will need to claim the payment in the form of a credit on your 2021 tax return.

2nd stimulus check

When do I get my 2nd stimulus check? I have been looking forward to getting it so I can get ahead on my bills. This is ridiculous that I have to wait this long and if I don’t get it by the  deadline(Jan 15, 2021), I have to file it for a tax return so that means I have to wait even longer. I’m highly upset and plan on filing my taxes with somewhere more about me and the people, and know how to be responsible with my relief funds. I know individuals that have received it perfectly fine with HR Block and other tax sites, who has the same error as turbo tax. They value their customers more in my professional opinion. I pray this gets resolved ASAP.

If you received an email from TurboTax with the subject: “CRITICAL STIMULUS UPDATE: Update Your Stimulus Payment Direct Deposit Information” - please click here for those instructions.

If you did not receive this email, please see How will the second stimulus impact me?  If you use attempt to use the tool and did not receive this email, your account information will not be updated.   It will only work for those customers who received the CRITICAL STIMULUS UPDATE email.    @Antmc21

2nd stimulus check

@DawnC So since it was posted on a TT community forum with no mention of requiring an email, many people used the link and were able to update bank information. There have been alot of people that got messages letting them know their payment wasn't affected by this error and were not able to submit info.

For those who did, myself included, we received a message confirming our information was updated and that we could expect to see our deposit within 5 business days. The email requirement was not mentioned until today. I spoke with a TT specialist today who said if the system accepted my updated information, then it is because my acct was one if the ones included in this mess and that I should've received an email. Since it was accepted, I should expect to see my payment by Monday evening (5th business day).

Are you saying now that since I did not receive an email, the system accepted my info and gave a confirmation but it means nothing and I won't receive my payment?

Also, the rep let me know she was sending me a survey as soon as the call ended and I still have not received it. Is there a chance the emails are not going through as expected?

Yes, there may be an issue with your email.  If the tool allowed you to update your info, then you were one of the accounts affected and you should have received an email.   I would check your account information and make sure the email address on file is correct.  And also make sure you don't have your e-mail settings blocking or moving Intuit emails to junk/spam.   To check the email address on file, click on Intuit Account in the lower left hand corner of the screen when you are signed into the account you used to file 2019.

Since you were able to update your information using the tool, you should still expect to receive your payment within 5 business days!  @amatoa2018

I updated my information the 12th along with a lot of others in my family they’ve all received theirs why haven’t I?

Once your updated information is submitted you should receive your stimulus payment within 5 business days.

If you do not update your direct deposit information by January 16, or if your bank rejects your stimulus payment a second time, your stimulus funds may be required to be sent back to the IRS. You may then need to claim your stimulus payment in the form of a Recovery Rebate Credit when you file your 2020 tax return.

We know how important these funds are for so many Americans and we regret that an IRS error caused a delay in you receiving your stimulus payment.

2nd stimulus check

@Irene2805 please be sure to add that this does not apply to anyone who updated their info but did not receive an email/call/text instructing them to do so. Several reps said that even if you don't get an email, if the system allows you to update then it means you were affected and will see your money within 5 business days. That is not true. It allowed me to update Monday night and yesterday I spoke with a rep that confirmed my payment was rejected back to the IRS and I need to wait to hopefully receive something from them or I will need to claim it on my taxes. He said the system allowing me to update was just a glitch and has no effect on my payment. The different explanations are the most frustrating part of this whole mess. Especially since it is out of our control and to no fault of our own.

2nd stimulus check

Is there anyway you can tell if it’s been sent to my bank yet? I’ve called TT and nobody will tell me anything about my payment. I’d like to actually know if it’s been sent to my bank or not.

Good point.  The portal for updating direct deposit information for the stimulus is ONLY for accounts that have been impacted by the IRS error that’s preventing taxpayers from getting their second stimulus.  I understand your frustration.   @amatoa2018

Check the IRS Get My Payment tool. The tool should tell you where your stimulus payment was deposited or mailed. For more information on the status of your stimulus payment you may wish to call the IRS.  To contact the IRS, please review the steps and information below:

IRS Support Number: (800) 829-1040

To reach a live agent at the IRS support number, follow these steps:

1.      Select your preferred language.

2.      Press 2 for “Personal Income Tax”

3.      Press 1 for “Form, Tax History, or Payment”

4.      Press 3 for “All Other Questions”

5.      Press 2 for “All Other Questions”

6.      Do not enter your SSN or EIN. It will ask you twice; do not enter anything.

7.      Press 2 for “Personal or Individual Tax Questions”

They are available Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time (Alaska & Hawaii follow Pacific Time).

If you don't receive your stimulus payment by the time you file your tax return, you can make an adjustment on your 2020 tax return for stimulus payments you qualify for, but have not received.

To do this in TurboTax, please follow these steps:

  1. Enter the information in your return.
  2. Click Federal Review at the top of your screen.
  3. On the screen, Let's make sure you got the right stimulus amount, click Continue.
  4. You will be asked about the amounts of first round and second round stimulus payments you received
  5. TurboTax will then calculate the amount of stimulus payment remaining that you are still entitled to.  This will show as a credit on line 30 of the 1040.

2nd stimulus check

My question is. Can a rep tell me when my deposit will or was sent to my bank?

2nd stimulus check

@Irene2805 thank you. Unfortunately, GMP showed a DD date of 1/4 then changed to Status Not Available and it hasn't changed since. I contacted IRS and they are not helpful at all. But given all that has happened, I can't say I blame them. Spoke with 2 different reps who will only say that it takes 2-3 weeks for rejected payments to be returned to them. Was told if I don't see it by end of month, then I need to claim it. I also asked about claiming it and if it could be taken to pay off a past tax debt (2018). First rep said she didn't know and second rep said most likely.

But again, thank you for your reply. I appreciate the information. I can't imagine how stressful it is for you guys too.

Let's just hope it eventually shows up!!

@Brannondaddy It would be best to read the latest update on the status of the stimulus payment here. Turbo Tax is awaiting the IRS to release the funds for many payments, as Turbo Tax cannot issue the funds until they have received them.

A representative cannot tell you the status, To check on the status of your stimulus payment, please click here
