Please note that the stimulus portal was closed January 16 and is no longer available.
The information below only applies to customers who received an email from TurboTax with the subject: “CRITICAL STIMULUS UPDATE: Update Your Stimulus Payment Direct Deposit Information”
If you did not receive this email, please see How will the second stimulus impact me? If you attempt to use the tool and did not receive this email, your account information will not be updated.
We attempted to get your stimulus payment to you.
Unfortunately, the bank account where your previous tax refund was deposited is no longer available, and your stimulus payment was rejected.
In order to send you your stimulus payment, please provide updated direct deposit information in our secure portal as soon as possible, and by January 16 here.
Once your updated information is submitted you should receive your stimulus payment within 5 business days.
Please follow these steps to update your information in the portal:
- Go here and sign in with the username and password you used to file your 2019 tax return
- Validate your identity
- Enter your updated bank account information
If you do not update your direct deposit information by January 16, or if your bank rejects your stimulus payment a second time, your stimulus funds may be required to be sent back to the IRS. You may then need to claim your stimulus payment in the form of a Recovery Rebate Credit when you file your 2020 tax return.
We know how important these funds are for so many Americans and we regret that an IRS error caused a delay in you receiving your stimulus payment.
We attempted to direct deposit your stimulus payment into a bank account where your previous tax refund was deposited. Unfortunately, it was rejected. In order to send you your stimulus payment, please provide updated banking information in our secure portal here as soon as possible, and before January 15 so we can re-issue your direct deposit.
Stimulus payments will be received via direct deposit into the bank account entered into the secure portal. An email was sent to all affected individuals with a link and instructions.
You will see GOV PAYMENT REF in the description field.
You should receive your stimulus payment within 5 business days of updating your bank account information.
TurboTax has been working tirelessly with the IRS and Treasury to ensure all eligible taxpayers receive their stimulus payment. For a small percentage of those affected by the IRS error, stimulus funds were rejected by their bank. This is because the bank account where your previous tax refund was deposited is no longer available. In order to send you your stimulus payment, please provide updated direct deposit information in our secure portal as soon as possible, and before January 16. A link to the portal was emailed directly to those affected.
Why is there different information on the IRS Website and Get My Payment tool about stimulus payments?
Updates may not be immediately reflected on IRS.gov, including the Get My Payment tool.
