How can I claim a Recovery Rebate Credit for my missing first stimulus check?

I was eligible for the first stimulus check but never got it. I used the "Get My Payment" IRS tool, but it never worked. I read on the IRS website that I can get the Recovery Rebate Credit with my 2020 taxes by using Form 1040 or 1040-SR, but I can't find where this is on my turbotax online portal or just how to claim this credit using turbotax. Please help 🙂

The Stimulus checks are really based on your 2020 tax return. Any amount you already got will be reconciled on your 2020 return line 30. If you didn't get a Stimulus Check (and qualify) or you qualify for more it will be added to your 2020 return. But the good news is if they paid you too much they won't take it back.

When you go through the federal review tab it will ask how much you got if any. Or to enter your stimulus payment in TurboTax, type "stimulus" (without the quotes) in the Search box, then click the link that says "Jump to stimulus." If you didn't get one or both enter a 0 and not leave it blank or it won't calculate it.

After you have entered your tax information and are ready for the Federal Review, it will be the first question.

If you are trying to trigger it, you can go to Other Situations, answer any questions and click Done. The next automatic selection is Federal Review and it will ask about payments received.

How can I claim a Recovery Rebate Credit for my missing first stimulus check?

When I finally got to talk to someone at the IRS they told me someone had claimed me as their dependent.  Not true, I am not anyone's dependent.  Also, when I tried to file my taxes with you last year I was told that I had already filed them - NOT!   I receive Social Security only.  Was told I didn't really need to file.  I received a grand total of $13,512 last year (2020).  I own my home.  I really could use that stimulus check.  Would help a lot.   The IRS said I could claim the back stimulus on this years 1040SB form.  But don't see where I can add it.  Can you please help me.

Thank you,

Just complete and file the 2020 federal tax return.

The stimulus questions are asked in the Federal Review section of the TurboTax program.  Any payment you were eligible to receive based on the 2020 Federal tax return but did not receive will be entered on the Federal tax return, Form 1040 Line 30 as a tax credit.  The credit is included in the federal tax refund or it will reduce the amount of federal taxes owed.
