My son joined the military July 31st. He went to boot camp from July 31 till October 5. He has been in training in Goose Creek, SC since then.
His original residence is Honolulu, HI. Does he need to complete a non-resident form for another state?
Does he still complete a resident form from his state of origin, Hawaii? (He worked in Hawaii before leaving for the military.)

His HI resident return should be filed. He remains a resident of HI regardless of where the military takes him.
As for SC, if his ONLY income is military, he does not file a SC return. If he had a part time job so he earned other income in SC, then he would file his non-military income to SC.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate your explanation!
