The Form 1099-B does not always show the cost basis.
If your transaction type, or box code, is B, C, E or F, you can just enter the correct basis.
Those box codes show that the broker is not required to report the basis to the IRS.
If they have reported the transaction with Box A or D checked , your will need to enter a code to explain why the basis is different.
In that case, enter the transaction as it is on your 1099-B, but check the box next to The cost basis is incorrect or missing on my 1099-B. This is at the bottom of the 1099-B screen.
