I am trying to e-file my return but right before I can e-file, TurboTax trips up and says that the Schedule E "days rented at market rent" must be greater than 15 days. I transitioned my home to a rental in December 2023 and it was not rented in 2023 but was on the market. Why will TurboTax not let me file reflect this reality? I can't imagine I am the only person ever to have an in-service rental not in fact rented during the tax year. Help!

If you indicated that you placed your Rental in Service in December 2023, answer YES to the question 'was it rented all year' in TurboTax. Don't enter any number of 'days rented' or that indicates a mixed personal use/vacation rental situation.
This means that, from the date it became a rental, it was never used for personal use (even though it may not always have been rented, it was available for rent, as you mentioned).
Changing your answer to this question should solve your Efile issue.
Thank you. Where in TurboTax can I put a rental in service date? I do not see that in the product...
Start in the Rental Properties and Royalties section
Go through the interview carefully to setup the rental.
Several screens have several questions on that one screen that need to be answered.
Below are some screens unique to your situation that will need to be addressed.
I believe you will report zero days rented and zero days personal use, but you also do enter it as a "in-service" date of December 2023 as stated in the answer above.
You should be able to return to the rental, select Edit and go back through the interview.
