If I was laid off of work for 6 weeks unpaid due to covid outbreak in my building causing building to be shutdown, can I claim that as a tax break? And how?

I noticed there is a tax break for self employed if they were out of work due to covid. What about people who are not self employed.

What tax break for self employed?  I don't think there is one on your tax return.  Either way you will just have less income to pay tax on.  If you took a early distribution from your IRA or 401K and qualify you can avoid the 10% Early Withdrawal Penalty.

If you received unemployment compensation for the time you were off, you will need to enter the 1099G for the unemployment as income.

Unemployment compensation is taxable on your federal return.  Enter your 1099G for unemployment in Federal>Wages and Income>Unemployment

You might need to get your 1099G from the state’s unemployment site.
