You can get this error message when you have a negative number reported as proceeds or cost basis associated with an investment sale. You will have to adjust the proceeds and/or the cost basis to correct the negative entry. You will see an option to adjust your cost basis after you enter your investment sale in TurboTax. This often happens when you are reporting options traded.
