Capital Gains Entry Giving Smart Check Error for Cents

Same problem here.  Sweet!  Cannot e-file until this is fixed.  Otherwise, print out a hundred pages and hope it gets in the right hands.

It's FEB 20 and NO, it's still a train wreck.  Thousands upon thousands of customers cannot e-file until this mess is fixed.

I went in and manually changed over 60+ entries, took over 6 hours but I’m filed.

This will probably be my last year with TurboTax.

Good luck to everyone else!

Has this been fixed? Any moderator update? I just started my return today and I’m getting a similar error but not sure if it’s the same one. A bunch of imported 1099-B transactions were under $1 and rounded to $0 for the wash sale column.

I'm having this issue as well. Except for this last error, I am ready to file but can't due to this error. Is anyone looking into this problem when importing the data?

@sgj31 i talked to an actual person who said it was fine since the IRS accepts rounding, but I couldn’t get past the error. Digging around in the help files, I ended up deleting the 100+ imported transactions and manually entering the summary for capital gains and losses from my 1099-B and 1099-DIV instead. That cleared up the errors. Hope this helps you!

I think the error is fixed, but automatic software updates does not seem to fix the issue. I did manual update following this procedure, after another issue on-  form 8995 ( not done) issue which was resolved by a user suggestion for manual update,

as per the instructions shown below, and followed up another 1 minute auto update, and then Opened my error file return, and Voila, all the errors were gone!

I am trying to file my taxes using the on-line Turbo tax and cannot get beyond error Check. I tried to do a manual update to my 1099-B for the transaction in error and NO success. I am beyond frustrated as I've used different browsers and I keep getting browser errors and am unable to update the date nor the cost-adusted basis on my 1099-B for downloaded transactions from my broker.. This is march 9th and I don't see any way to get around this issue.

march 15th, still an issue

Capital Gains Entry Giving Smart Check Error for Cents

After quite a few hours of working with Turbo Tax support and multiple escalations. I finally was able to solve my problem.

Apparently some of my sales had zero/missing as the cost basis and that caused an issue. I went back in and found the entries and voila! I passed error check. One thing I do want to say that the error messages that Turbo Tax On-line gave did NOT point me to the lines in error. The error during Smart Check was pointing to the last individual entry on my 1099-B, which had no issues.

Additonally every time I tried to fix the error, multiple browsers hung and I had to do a hard reset to restart the program. This kind user experience for a product like Turbo Tax On-line is absolutely unacceptable. I do hope this issue is resolved.

To me this is an absolute bug in the software and needs to be addressed by Turbo Tax. I've been using this product for over 10 years, this years experience was the worst where I spent over 2 weeks trying to resolve my issue. Getting support was another aggravation with multiple calls and escalations.

For any error checking to not tell the user exactly which line(s) were in error, is absolutely unforgivable.

I will think twice before I use Turbo Tax On-line next year!

So, TT in their infinite wisdom chooses to round these entries, but carries 1099-INT and 1099-DIV amounts to the penny, only rounding the total to the nearest dollar.  I guess consistency isn't something they're interested in.
