Capital Gains Entry Giving Smart Check Error for Cents

Hey everyone,

I just just picked up where I left off and the program fixed itself and let me e-file. Try logging in again and go to finish and it should automatically correct itself.

Yes, everyone needs to get the latest update (released 1/28/2021).

The program should no longer flag any errors for rounding.

Problem is resolved on the web version.   For good measure, I removed my previous import from TD Ameritrade, and re-imported.  Successfully efiled today.

The bug seems to be fixed except for one of my transactions in which we only made 43 cents profit (don't laugh it's just a fun thing for me LOL)

I tried removing that entry and still get the error.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I have 4 errors that won't get past error  check all the same:

From 1099-B Worksheet:  Sales Price is not between the prescribed upper and lower limits.

How can I fix this?  I can't clear error check, I'm in a loop.  How and when can we get a fix in the works?

I'm ready to file - transmit, but can't.  I have 4 problem children with the same error.

HELP - glad to see I'm not the only one.

You can round that down to zero since it is less than fifty cents.

I rounded down to the nearest dollar that didn't work.  All 4 of these were negative numbers  -24.32 etc.  I put down to -24.00 - it wouldn't save.  This is a loss so I changed it to 1.00 a positive number, then the error went away and I could submit my tax return.   It meant I got 9 less dollars back.

The feeling I have the NEGATIVE number was the issue, but it's important that the turbo tax accepts NEGATIVE number, because it means a loss and we are credited for that.  ONce the fix is done, I can amend my taxes and get the 9 dollars I am owed.

Please keep us informed.  Thank you,

Where in the program are you entering negative numbers?

You cannot enter a negative number as the dollar amount of the transaction (e.g., gross proceeds).

The sale price (proceeds) was NEGATIVE as in a loss.  I changed it to 1 instead to get it to complete so I could submit.   (ZERO would not work.)

The difference in my refund was 9 dollar lost.

It was not a positive number it was a loss.

Hello @LauraL333

I would suggest starting that section over. And redoing your claims/losses section. The program should do everything for you with out any hassle now. If you’re still having problems, call customer service they are very helpful and even take control over your current Turbo Tax web screen only (not your entire desktops). Which I hope you are doing this on a computer/laptop. I hope this helps.

You absolutely should not have a negative amount for your sales proceeds. You might have a loss but that would be a result of your basis (cost) exceeding your proceeds.

If you did transactions that are relatively out of the mainstream, such as buying to close an option position, then you simply reverse the entry.

Can we please get an update.  This happens every year for me, and I can't get past it.  Can you tell us if this is a bug in the system, and if so, when it will be fixed and its priority the queue for software development and product.

I am unable to file because a line on my imported Summary of Broker and Bartered Exchange Transactions, line 1g is listed as $0.01 and Turbotax is reading that as zero and not allowing me to file. I also cannot change the number to $1 in turbotax. What should I do?

As of 2/4/2021, issue is not fixed and very disappointed with purchasing this program!  I needed my taxes done asap for business purposes.

I continue to get an error message stating I need to change the value in my 1099 B worksheet. I can't figure out how to change the value in the worksheet. It will not let me do this. Is there a way to change the value?
