The income would be considered "Other Income', not rental income.
To enter the Form 1099-Misc:
1. Start in the Federal section of TurboTax
2. Look in Wages and Income and find the Other Common Income section
3. Choose Income from Form 1099-MISC
4. Complete the Form 1099-MISC entries and answer the questions designed to determine the best way to report the income on your tax return
To have the income reported as "Other Income" as opposed to self-employment income, when you answer the questions in the section where you enter your Form 1099-MISC, you have to indicate that you:
1. Did not have an intent to earn money for the income reported on the Form 1099-Misc
2. You only received the income in 2025 and not the year before or after
3. It was not associated with your main job
The answers to these questions will not appear on your tax return, they are just asked to determine how the income is treated on your tax return.
