issue is: all three states require income tax filing even if 0 for non resident rental property owner. However, it works for the state of residency CA, and MA, but the property for NC doesn't report the paperwork where it shows income/expenses. Basically, NC knows i am reporting a 0 income (loss of 3k), but none of the documentation shows on the NC report. That is not an issue with MA, where it shows all records for that property and I just had to adjust that it was not MA income regarding the income  for the other 2 states.

how do i go about having turbotax show schedule E for the property located in NC?

When you e-file the North Carolina return, the information from the federal return is transmitted to NC at the same time, so they have you Schedule E data.

Hi MaryK4,

on my MA return, the schedule E is sent with all the information, including the schedule E for NC with a box to check it is not income from MA. But that doesnt happen in the state of NC. I went back and doubled income to NC just to see if with a gain it would update, it didn't.

I know I should complete the non resident rental income prior to my state of residency, but both MA and NC are in MA return (i removed it with the check box) but neither show on the NC.

Is there a way around it?

@susuT Please forgive me if I am not following you, but for Massachusetts, there is a state specific Schedule E that is part of the tax return.  North Carolina does not have a Schedule E as such that is a form on the return so you do not have to do the indicator like for Massachusetts.  If this does not answer you question, let me know.
