I can defer capital gains on sale of stock

Is there any way to defer capital gains on sale and reinvestment of stock similar to the 1031 exchange tax treatment of property sales and purchases?

Not that I am aware of.  The rules for a 1031 exchange specifically excludes stocks, bonds, notes, and securities - and I do not believe there is a similar vehicle that is allowed for stock sales.
