Question: in 2020 I received installment sale proceeds (prior proceeds received in 2017 & 2018, but not 2019). TT rolled over the 6252 object from before ... and I was able to enter 2020 data ... but the data aren't flowing to my schedule D. What is the software/user fix?

I think I'm having the same problem.  I have installment gains I've been reporting for several years.  I rolled over the 2019 TR into TurboTax for 2020 and entered the principal amount and interest received.  It is calculating the gain correctly on Form 6252 but the gain is not flowing over to Schedule D, understating reported income on 1040.  How does this get corrected?

I have reached out to TT customer support to advise them of the apparent bug. No feedback yet re corrected software or a manual workaround.

I have the same issue and have spent several hours on the phone with support over the course of several days. It seems like they keep losing the cases. On two occasions they have transferred me to a tax expert, who sounded like a deer in the headlights looks. I have an open case and hope that they will get it fixed by Monday, April 5. 2021. The first couple of calls they insinuated it was a user issue, not a program issue. However, they have been unable to correct the user issue, so I am sure it is a programing issue. Please call support, and have them open a case, the more people who do, the quicker we may have a resolution.

My situation involved 3 entries for form 6252. What worked for me was to delete one of them, recreate it ... and then, mysteriously, it and the other 2 untouched 6252 entries suddenly flowed to schedule D and summed correctly. I am both relieved ... and a bit concerned. Code for a mass market piece of software like TT shouldn't be that funky.

Below is the response I got from support. Interestingly, the IRS changed the form in 2019 and now requires part 1 of the form to be completed each year, rather than just in the year of sale. I did not recognize that when I filed last year and the program did not flag the fact that information was missing as an error. So, I am guessing I am now looking at filing an amendment for 2019.

Thanks for letting us know about your issue with Income on form 6252 not flowing to Schedule D or Form 4797. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused.

We appreciate your patience while we looked into your issue. After investigating the issue, we found that everything is calculating properly. It looks like there is some missing information within Form 6252 Part 1. Please review your cost basis and your sales price in this section and ensure your entries are correct.

Thank you for passing this on.  I hadn't heard anything so played around and found that by deleting all the prior entries and re-entering everything again, it made it work as it should.  It was a pain but worked.

Yep, same thing except none of the ones that existed began working.  I ended up deleting all of them - 5 - and reentering the info, then it began working.
