I rented a truck to deliver a living room full of furniture to a charity. is the cost of the truck and gas deductible?

Yes, that would be deductible as a charitable contribution if the organization you donated it to is a 501(c)(3).  Ideally, you would get a receipt from the organization for the amount of the rental and gas.  If the amount of is less than $250 the rental receipt and gas receipt will suffice.
